Known as the undisputed czar of UVs in India, Mahindra, which primarily offers SUVs and MPVs in its product portfolio has a bunch of new models lined-up for launch in coming months. One of the highly-awaited vehicles, being developed under the codename, Mahindra U321 is an MPV which was expected to launch during the second half of FY2017-18. It has now been learnt that Mahindra has deferred the launch to FY2018-19. Reports in media suggest, Mahindra could launch the U321 MPV in India between April 2018 to March 2019. The company had however announced in February last year, that it would launch the MPV within a year.
Moreover, the MPV will make inroads into a new segment and will not replace the Xylo model in Mahindra’s line-up. That said, the Mahindra U321 could be positioned between Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova. Sources in the know have revealed that Mahindra U321 has been designed in the MNATC R&D centre and looks like a proper MPV.
It is the first MPV from Mahindra to feature monocoque construction and the first model to receive the all-new 1.6-litre diesel engine. In terms of output, the new diesel unit makes maximum power of 125bhp against 305Nm of peak torque. Additionally, the MPV will also come with either a 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre petrol unit.
As for aesthetics, the Mahindra U321 is expected to feature projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights and 16-inch alloy wheels on the outside. On the inside, it is likely to pack a dual tone colour scheme, while features such as an automatic climate control, rear AC vents, touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and a rear-view camera are expected to be equipped in the cabin. As for the pricing, expect the MPV to be priced upwards of Rs 10 lakh.
